About Mitchell J. Roth

Mitchell J. Roth (he/they) (b.2005) is a composer, percussionist, and student from Metro Detroit, Michigan. He writes for band, orchestra, and chamber groups of all levels. Mitchell performs as timpanist in the Detroit Metropolitan Youth Symphony and plays percussion and low brass with the North Farmington High School Symphony Band and the Farmington Concert Band. He graduates from high school in June 2024 and continues on to Wayne State University the following August, where he will study economics and music business.

As a published composer, Michell’s first professional publication debut in 2023 with Randall Standridge Music. He currently has several more works in production with RSM as well as with Grand Mesa Music, where he won 2nd prize in their Young Band Composition Contest for his grade 1 work, “Discovery.” Mitchell has also won numerous other awards and honors for his compositions, including having a premiere at the MMEA Honors Composition Contest (2023, 2024) and 1st place in the Michigan PTSA Reflections Contest (2020).

Mitchell enjoys writing for both large and small ensembles. His band works have been premiered locally, often being written for his own school ensembles and peers. In fall 2023, The Spirit of North Raider Marching Band presented Space Odyssey, for which Mitchell arranged the hornline, drumline, and front ensemble books. His string work “Of Love and Loss” is slated to be played at the 2023 Midwest Band and Orchestra Director’s Clinic.
