About Duroje Gwamna

Duroje Gwamna was born to a proud pair of Nigerian scholars on a cold Midwestern Friday, February 5th, 1988. Unknowingly to them, those two introduced this musical rabbit hole via Fela Kuti's Afrobeat and the funky chiptunes of the family Sega.

Intrigued by the whimsy of the trombone, he developed a passion for arranging pep band tunes via his high school music theory course. This led Duroje to pursue a bachelor's degree in Music Theory and Composition from Coe College in 2010, studying under Director of Bands, William S. Carson, Composition professor Dr. Joseph Dangerfield, and many others.

Duroje is a dynamic arranger, engraver, and composer, with his arrangements resonating in marching bands, show choirs, and various ensembles across Eastern Iowa. As of June 2023, his most recent composition, Rise, had its European premiere with the Coe College Concert Band. While dedicated to writing and playing for large ensembles,

Duroje seamlessly blends his love for electronic music creation into his future projects.

Duroje finds joy in marriage to his wife, Sarah. They reside in Oxford, Iowa, with their effervescent toddler, Tunde, two cats, Osito and Cricket, and a growing puppy, Garth. He's an avid Pokemon nerd.
